Perhaps the most potentially catastrophic consequence of Y2K would be major nuclear power plant accidents, nuclear bomb explosions, or toxic releases. This could nullify all the other personal and community preparedness efforts we had done, and threaten the existence of any form of civilization -- or even most multicellular life on the planet. This isn't likely, but it is a non-trivial possibility. Short of that extreme worst case, more minor nuclear or toxic releases could be devastating for the local areas in which they occurred. This page exists to introduce you to some of the issues and the players involved in Y2K nuclear and toxic concerns -- hopefully to empower you to spread the word and make your strong voice heard as a citizen with a right to non-toxic air, water, food and land. Many authorities and activists say Y2K is the right moment to close down nuclear plants, de-alert or eliminate nuclear weapons, and radically limit toxic industries and activities. We think it is high time to take these issues seriously and get some intense, co-intelligent dialogue underway across the land, around the world.
