New Democracy Projects
The recent electoral crisis opened up a space
for public dialogue about the need to rework our democracy. The
Co-Intelligence Institute is planning an initiative that is currently
manifesting as four possible projects. We will be further exploring
and refining them during early 2001. They may become complementary,
overlapping projects -- or some or all of them will merge.
Currently the focus is the Innovations in Democracy and Beyond
Project, since it is likely to speak to more mainstream citizens.
Innovations in Democracy and Beyond Project covers
all innovations relating to a citizen-empowered politics and
governance, including visions of social self-organization that
reach beyond what people normally think of as democracy.
- The Sustainable Democracy Project (not
yet outlined) explores the kind of democracy and democratic innovations
that would support sustainability -- and the reasons why it is
necessary to include democracy in any vision of sustainability.
Collaborative Democracy Network is an effort to
bring together people involved in collaborative practices of
all sorts, to co-create more collaborative forms of politics
